East Meets West

near Elm Creek, Nebraska --Eastern & Western Kingbirds
One evening, I saw something interesting in my yard. Adult Eastern & Western Kingbirds were feeding their young in a tree above my house just minutes apart. The young were able to fly, but apparently not old enough to catch insects to feed themselves yet. As I usually work evenings at my other job, I didn't get to see if this continued. A few days later I was woken up at about sunrise to the sound of birds. To be quite honest, my first thought was something like "be quiet, I'm trying to sleep". Then all at once it was like God smacked me upside the head with a tripod and said get up, the Kingbirds are back. I was amazed to see young Eastern and Western Kingbirds this close. Eastern Kingbird are black and white, Western Kingbirds are black and yellow. To be quite frank, this photo is just a teaser, I have better action shots that I am saving for a contest, but you might be able to see them at upcoming art shows.
